Intuition - Morals and Intuition and Thanksgiving
Is Intuition A Moral Voice - Will It Direct You Towards The "Right Moral Decision"
I was thinking about this today since tomorrow is Thanksgiving.
Why would Thanksgiving stir these thoughts?
The first episode was when one friend told me they were having Tofu Turkey.
Now eating is not a moral issue for me. I like food. I don't care if it came from the farm...the wilderness...wherever.
But Tofu to me is not food.
However, eating is moral choice for many people.
It disguises itself as fledgling vegetarianism is 10 or 12 year old girls. (If every twelve year old girl who put on the mantle of I'll Never Eat Flesh Again! stayed with it...we wouldn't need any cow farmers.)
It lurks in the corners of the Health Food Stores. You walk past the skinny, unhealthy looking people who eye you as you pass by with their quiet moral superiority...passing judgment that you aren't a purist...and questioning your choice of Chromium because it's not "picolinated" or "natural" enough.
Hey everyone...Cheeseburger In Paradise!
By the way, I've know a number of Health Food Store owners and they are split into two groups.
The first started their store as "a cause" thirty or forty years ago. Back then they were "weird" and small in numbers.
They still act like they are some kind of separate culture. It's like old hippies that are still living in the sixties. They refuse to see Health Food went mainstream a long time ago. Even upstream.
Hey, anyone heard of Whole Foods?
The second group was younger and saw health food stores as a great way to make a living. And they started catering to a lot more people with a lot more choices. They made it mainstream. Heck, even Wal Mart has natural foods in many choices.
I asked one of the younger owners once why so many people in Health Food stores looked so sick...and he pointed out...very seriously.... that to those people health food was a last gasp attempt at healing themselves. Many were very sick and were holding on to the hope and path that better food and nutrition was the answer.
So how did I get on that...Oh, Is Eating A Moral Matter.
Intuition Moral Messenger or Practical Messenger
There's two ways of looking at Intuition as a carrier or Moral as well as Practical Messages.
The first is Intuition is based on the experiences you have had in your life. It's your subconscious mind blending together all your experiences, knowledge and such and giving you a short hand answer on how you should act next.
Very practical. Based on human experience.
If your experience includes certain deep held moral beliefs...it probably includes those in the decision process.
If you act against your "moral training"...then you probably didn't believe in very much in the first place.
There are times when you act "morally"...like not killing someone...but it's really just self preservation. So it's not directed by morality...it's directed from practicality.
The second viewpoint is your Intuition is really the conduit for God or the Universal Power or whatever term you choose to use here to talk to you. Maybe even psychic messages from across the dimensions.
And since that power is "inherently moral" the answers fed to you must be moral in themselves.
I'm not going to dispute that here. I think there's room for it. That opens the door to a whole different conversation.
But in the end,it doesn't really matter where the message came from.
In the end, it's not just what the message says to you....it's what you do with it.
Thanks,
Intuitive John
PS Did you know the reason that Thanksgiving falls on a Thursday was the Pilgrims didn't trust the flock to stay pure all week...so they had Thursday prayer meetings. Kind of like the Baptists...only theirs are on Wednesday.

Interesting post, John, and definitely "food" for thought. I was a vegetarian during my teens and into my twenties. My doctor steered me away from it. I still do enjoy tofu at times...but as tofu, not as make-believe turkey.

I am reading a text book by David Buss (evolutionary psychology) and he talks about morals as being a possible evolutionary trait that helps with the function of creating higher and a more functional social order. I suppose that if that were the case, morals could actually be THE practical messenger.... interesting post.

In the end I can trace just about anything that would be construed as morally good about me to my mother.
Interesting post.

Last year we had a Turducken, that was great... THis year Turkey with family in Minnesota.
My most interesting Thanksgiving location was Stratford-on-Avon, the home of Shakespeare. I was there for a tradeshow and one of the American companies rented out a local Stratford pub and a caterer to make us all Turkey and dressing to wash down with our Ale...

I laughted as you told the salesperson's words that to all those not healthy looking natural food was the last hope. This is not funny though if that's really true.

AND I LOVE turkey
However, i am not REMOTELY deluded that Tofu = Turkey!
it is another food item which is GREAT with sauce!
after weight loss surgery, it was a soft food I could eat for about 1 month.
It meant I could go out on dates again with my BF of the time, lunch with friends.
